Special Services

The Hutchinson Public Library provides a number of special services to the community. Among these are children's and home-bound outreach, adult literacy tutoring, one-on-one technology training, and ESL. For information about any of these services, please call us or see specific contact information after each description.

Children's Outreach

This program is one of our busiest services. Our Children's Outreach Coordinator takes story time out to home day cares, day care centers, and early education centers all over the city. These are full-fledged story times with reading, songs, crafts and activities all geared toward pre-school children. Circulating books are brought on request that the day care providers use in between visits from the library. For information on this program, please contact Amy Johnson at (620)663-5441 ext. 145.

Home-bound Outreach

Hutchinson Public Library staff select, check out, and deliver books and other materials to home bound adult patrons. Every two weeks, these adult patrons receive a new delivery and the staff member retrieves materials from the previous delivery.

This service is open to any adult who can't get to the library due to illness or disability. For more information, contact the Outreach Staff at (620)663-5441 ext. 116.

Adult Literacy

Individual Tutoring - The Hutchinson Public Library provides staff and volunteers to help adults improve their math, reading, writing, speaking and language skills including ESL. The State of Kansas defines Adult Education Services as those provided to residents who are at least 16 years old and no longer enrolled in school. The library follows this guideline as to whom we consider potential students.

Information for Potential Tutors - The relationship between the tutor and client is more important then how knowledgeable a tutor is in the given subject area. Adult Education Services tutors come from all walks of life. But the common thread has been individuals who are patient and committed to helping a client accomplish his or her educational goals.

For more information about these services, please contact the library at 620-663-5441 x. 143 or adulteducation@hutchpl.org.

One-on-one Technology Training

Our IT staff provide training by appointment on just about any technology issue. Staff can provide help learning to use new devices or software, learning to get the most out of library resources, or even just getting comfortable with the very basics of smartphones, tablets or computers. Staff cannot provide hardware support, but will refer patrons to reputable local repair shops. If you are interested in this service, please contact the library's IT department at 620-663-5441 ext. 163
