About the Makerspace

The Hutchinson Public Library Makerspace is a public workshop-area that provides access to tools, materials, and skilled mentorship. It’s a fun, creative place for people to share and develop their abilities, explore their passions, and inspire others to do the same.

  • No experience required: The Makerspace is a place to learn. Staff are available to guide and provide input on your projects. This is a do-it-yourself space, though! Staff are here to assist – not complete projects on request.
  • Supplied materials: We keep a selection of materials available, such as 3D-printing filament, adhesive vinyl, printable fabric transfers, and plastic tiles for CNC carving. Some supplies are available for a charge, but we often have donated materials available, and you are welcome to bring compatible materials to use.
  • Location: The Makerspace is located in the basement of the Library. Use the central elevator and press the button labeled “Make”.
  • Availability: The Makerspace is available for walk-in use during library open hours – no appointment required. Machines are typically available on a first-come-first-served basis. You are encouraged to call before your visit to make sure equipment is available.

In our Makerspace, you can:

  • Learn about programming
  • Develop your own video game
  • Tinker and craft
  • CAD
  • and more!

The Library Makerspace is being funded in part by the generous endowment from the Arlene Jennings Trust, appointed to Hutchinson Public Library by Deborah L. Mosier.  Debbie was a teacher in the Hutchinson area.  We think she’d be proud of what we have started with her gift.
