Children's Learning and Activities

Children’s events are in the Children’s Activity Room and no registration is required unless otherwise indicated.  Programs are free.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM May 24 - August 4 A Universe of Stories!

Readers and parents of pre-readers are encouraged to register anytime for our fun summer reading program. Register at the Children’s Services Desk.   Instructions and Goals
Goal 1 – Read 10 books and/or 10 hours, or any combination of the two.  Record them on your chart or time sheet.  Return the completed form(s) to the library for PRIZES! To continue on, ask for a YELLOW chart.
Goal 2 – Read 15 more books/hours (for a total of 25) Read 15 more books and/or 15 hours, or any combination of the two. Record them on your YELLOW chart and return it to the library for more PRIZES! To continue on, ask for a GREEN chart. Goal 3 – Read 25 more books/hours (for a total of 50). Read 25 more books and/or 25 hours, or any combination of the two.  Once you have completed your GREEN chart, return it to the library and you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a GIFT BASKET (4 gift baskets will be awarded– two created for pre-readers, two for readers).

Kelsey and Jeremy Philo will perform their jaw-dropping glow show with lasers, hula hoops, juggling, acrobatics and unicycle. This glowing, anti-gravity show is free and open to all ages! FREE LUNCHES Free lunch from USD 308 for children and teens ages 1-18.   No registration or identification is required.

LEGOS® @ the Library
First Saturday of every month
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Children can learn several skills when working with LEGO blocks, including planning, creativity, problem solving and having fun!  Plan on the first Saturday of every month where we dump thousands of LEGO blocks on the floor and let the kids build and play.

Read to Rover
Second Thursday of Every Month
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Studies show that children gain confidence when reading to dogs.  Whether your child is a pre-reader, just learning to read, or is a proficient reader, they will enjoy this fun program.  When readers get three punches on their punch card, they get a free book!  

NEW! Star Wars® Club June 15th, July 20th, & August 17th 1:30 – 3:30pm Blast your summer into hyperdrive with the Star Wars Club! Play intergalactic games, learn with Luke and Leia, enjoy Maz Kanata Crafts, and Rey’s power snacks.

NEW! Chess Club Every Saturday in the summer starting June 8th 10:00am-12:00pm Have you ever wondered how to play chess? Or have you been active in your chess club at school? Come play and learn strategies from a chess instructor!

Early Literacy Center 
Located in the Children’s area, the Early Learning Center has toys, games, board books and parenting books to help parents and caregivers teach early literacy through play!

Early Childhood Fair
Thursday, August 1
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

We are inviting members/partners in our community to come and share information about resources for Early Childhood Literacy & Development. There will be some games & activities at their tables and a program in the children's area provided by the library's Children's Services staff. We are still working on who will be here, more details to come!
