Humanities Kansas TALK Series – O’ Pioneers! With Dennis Etzel Jr.

Stretching from Texas north into Canada, the Great Plains region has generated its share of myths and stereotypes, from the hardy pioneer farmer and the vanishing Indian to the Dust Bowl refugee.  It has also produced some of our finest writers and a rich literary tradition.  In this series, readers will explore the historical and mythical legacies of the Plains and how they continue to shape perceptions of life in Kansas. The series continues with “O Pioneers!” by Willa Cather on Thursday, April 24 at 6:00PM, The discussion will be led by Dennis Etzel Jr. Dennis Etzel Jr. teaches English at Washburn University. He received his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Kansas. Dennis has two chapbooks, The Sum of Two Mothers and My Graphic Novel and his work has been published in numerous publications and journals. In 2022, he was awarded the John Doyle Klier Residency for the Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow, Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Books are available for check out at the Public Service Desk.
